The Register Office is situated at the foot of Lindum Hill, below the historic cathedral. It is a magnificent listed building built in the 19th century as a home for the Bainbridge family. The waiting room is decorated with a medieval tapestry saved from a demolished house. The ceremony room is tastefully decorated in shades of burgundy and gold with oak panelling. It seats up to 40 guests. Editor’s note: It is not easy to tell from this video what alternative arrangements can be made for disabled users, but it seems to indicate that the Ceremony Room is up a long staircase, although the French doors lead out onto a garden which appears to have ramped access as well as steps. I have included this item by way of showing an establishment that has got it halfway right - we can see some of the access. Audio description would make a huge difference of course.
