Learn how to give yourself the Heimlich maneuver in this first aid video from Howcast with Nurse Mary. What do you do if you're choking and you're by yourself. Your first response is going to be to cough and try to get it out. You're going to do that automatically. If its not on there, it's not coming out, then you need to do something more. Number one, you want to remain calm, which is counter-intuitive. When you're choking and you can't breathe you're going to panicky and you're going to have high anxiety, which is normal. Try to keep a clear head. Try to find a chair, a chair is best. Try to find a chair or another surface where you can help yourself do the abdominal thrusts. You're going to want to find a chair. Good rule of thumb is pinky on your belly button. The roll up. That's where you want to aim for. You're going to lean over it and you're just going to thrust on top of it. Do it as many times as it takes to dislodge whatever is stuck in there, out. It's going to feel strange because you're landing yourself on a chair. You need to get whatever is choking you out of you so that you can breathe again.
